Obituary for Bette Louise Oler (Schoonover)

Bette Louise Oler (Schoonover)
Bette Louise Oler was welcomed into Heaven on Tuesday, March 13, 2018, at the age of 76. She passed peacefully in her home and awoke in the presence of our Savior.
Bette was born in Abilene, Texas on July 6, 1941 to Earl and Myrtle Schoonover. She was a resident of Abilene for many years. She attended Locust Elementary and Abilene High School. She married the love of her life, Maurice “Bud” Oler on Christmas Eve, 1959. They were married for 56 years and built a beautiful life together. They had three children, eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. They resided in Tye for the majority of their life together.

Bette had several occupations throughout her life and spent time volunteering for different organizations. She worked as a clerk for Gibson Discount Store and Clarks Discount Store. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where she was a Sunday School teacher. She also taught a class for visiting teachers and served on the Relief Society. She served as a visiting teacher and helped those that were active in the church. Bette also taught Sunday School and served as a State Representative for the First Church of the Nazarene. She cleaned houses for El Tye O. She owned and operated a store and restaurant in Tye called Bette’s Tye Treasures. She was a prominent figure in the YWCA, where she counseled several teenage women for six years. Bette and Bud were loving foster parents. They opened their hearts and home to 18 children throughout the years. Bette had lots of hobbies and interests. She enjoyed making quilts and clothes, caring for children, cooking, camping, fishing, writing, listening to music, singing, reading poems, drinking her Dr. Pepper, and working in her flower gardens. Her greatest passion, however, was being a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Bette was preceded in death by her husband, Bud Oler; brother-in-law Bob Johnson, and nephew Tyler Jennings. She is survived by her sister Sandy Johnson; brother Peter (Tera) Jennings; daughters Katrina (Eddie) Love and Sabrina (Jerry) Treadwell, and son Maury Oler. She is also survived by grandchildren Josh (Kayme) Treadwell, Krystal (Bryan) Day, Timothy Treadwell, Adrian Oler, Breanna (TJ) Livingston, Christopher Love, Summer (Devlyn) Russell, and Alyssa Oler; great-grandchildren Kayla, Samual, Peyton, AJ, Tramel, Maliah, Ramari and Max; and nehew Craig (LeeAnn) Johnson.

Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday, March 15, 2018 at Starbuck Funeral Home, 201 Edwards in Merkel. Services will be 2:00 PM Friday, March 16, 2018 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 3325 North 12th Street in Abilene. Burial will be in Tye Cemetery.
