Bettye Arlene Stout, 83, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, November 22, 2017. Visitation will be 4:00 to 6:00 PM Sunday, November 26, 2017 at Starbuck Funeral Home, 201 Edwards in Merkel. Funeral Service will be 11:00 AM Monday, November 27, 2017 at Starbuck Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery.
Bettye was born February 17, 1934 in Cross Plains Texas. She was a member of the Four-Square Church of Abilene for many years as well as Bible Chapel of Abilene. Bettye married Arthur G. Stout on September 26, 1951 and the couple was happily married for 66 years. Bettye was a military wife, while Arthur served in the Korean war, she supported and stood beside him until he came home in 1953 and they then began their family. She was then a home maker and Mother, devoting her life to her family.
She was preceded in death by her son, Darrell (Buddy) Stout, her mother Mable Potter Fortune and brother Fred Fortune.
Bettye is survived by her husband, Arthur G. Stout of Abilene, Daughter, Sharron Stout-Butler of Abilene, and Shelli Stout-Vercell of Montgomery, TX. Four grandchildren, Joshua and wife Lynzee Vercell of Willis TX; Jamie Vercell of Montgomery, TX; Heather Stout of Denver CO; and Dari Stout of Abilene, TX. Great grandchildren Madison Vercell, Morgan Vercell, Darrell Stout, and Cameron Davis. Sisters Sylvia Collins of Eula TX, Eva Langford of Knoxville TN, and Cathy Newton of Fayetteville, AR.
