Edith Lavelle McDaniel Gregory “Mama Gee”, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Thursday, March 23rd, 2017 in Merkel, Texas. Visitation will be held at Starbuck Funeral Home in Merkel on Friday, March 24th, 2017, from 5:00pm to 6:00pm, and the funeral service will be Saturday, March 25th, 2017 at 2:00pm at the Merkel Church of Christ. Burial will follow the service at the Rose Hill Cemetery also in Merkel under the direction of Starbuck Funeral Home.
Edith Lavelle McDaniel Gregory “Mama Gee”, was born on January, 6th, 1924 to Parker and Beatrice McDaniel in Comanche County. Growing up in the Gorman/Desdemona area, she developed completive side. An athlete to say the least, she played baseball with the boys, and was pretty good too. Lavelle married J.B. Gregory on May 8th, 1940. She knew the meaning of hard work, providing for her family, and being a loving wife and mother. Even after becoming a mother, grandmother, even great grandmother, she loved watching her babies perform. Whether the basketball court, the baseball diamond, or just a simple play at school, she would be there to cheer you on. Our Mama Gee was the solid rock of her family that spans out to 5 generations. Our hearts are sadden by the loss of this beautiful, loving, Christian woman that knew God would provided her with Eternal life in heaven when her time here was complete. She now has her wings, and can soar with the angels, and keep an even better eye on those of us she leaves behind. Mama Gee, you will be dearly missed by so many lives you have touched.
Cherishing all the memories she has left us with are her daughters, Pat Byrd and husband Jerry of Merkel; Barbara Goode and husband Jerry of Merkel; grandchildren, Cindy Hamner of Merkel; Suzanne Lovelace and husband Alan of Merkel; Dwayne Sloan and wife Patti of Abilene; Luan Humphries and husband Glenn of Merkel. Mama Gee was blessed with 9 great grand children and 8 great great grandbabies in which she loved every single one as well as countless nieces and nephews! She is also survived by one brother, Billy Neil McDaniel of DeLeon, Texas
She is preceded in death by her parents, Parker and Beatrice McDaniel, her husband J.B. Gregory and her brother Johnny McDaniel.
