Obituary for Nettie Verginia West (Turner)

Nettie Verginia West (Turner)
Nettie Verginia West, 81, went to be with her Lord Saturday, June 25, 2016. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 29th at Starbuck Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor James Clawson officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, directed by Starbuck Funeral Home. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Nettie Verginia was born in Bell County, Texas on February 14, 1935 to Laura Bell (Perry) and Reverend John Boyd Turner. Nettie Verginia, Nettie V, Ginger, mom, sister, and Aunt Verginia whichever you called her she answered to. Obviously being a preacher’s daughter she grew up in the church and grew to love her Lord. She was born with a hole in her heart and wasn’t supposed to live to be a teenager or have kids. She didn’t let that get in the way of living her life. When she was sixteen she met John Carl “JC” West. They married eight days later on September 5, 1951 in Hamlin, Texas. JC stayed in the Army and retired after twenty years. They had four children, Patsy Sue born at Camp Atterbury, Indiana; John Alva born at Fort Carson, Colorado; James Carl born at Fort Ord, California and Connie Bea born at Gelnhousen, Germany. Her children remember traveling from state to state and singing hymns in the car. Over the years Verginia would teach Sunday school and/or bible studies. Verginia studied and received her CNA. She became a caregiver and worked in nursing homes and later in individual homes helping others which was just an extension of who she was. If you needed something, and she had it and/or it was in her power she would give it to you or get it for you. She loved her God, her husband, her children in that order and still had enough love for her extended families and others.
After retirement and the kids were gone, JC and Verginia moved to Rosenberg, Texas where they were instrumental in the starting and the building-up of Rose-Rich Baptist Church. Verginia taught Sunday school there and was the church secretary, cleaned the church and whatever else they needed. She had a true servant’s heart.
Verginia is survived by two daughters, Patsy Sue Cowan and husband Jim of Llano, Connie Bea Benningfield and her friend Jesse of Rosenberg; two sons, John Alva “Al” West of Augusta, Georgia, James Carl West and wife Angela of Missouri City; sister, Laura Bell Turner Pearl Allsbrooks and husband Ray of Fort Worth; brother, Wyatt Adair “WA” and wife Pirley of Hamlin; fifteen grandchildren; thirty-seven great grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, and other family and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her father, Reverend John Boyd Turner; mother, Laura Bell Perry Turner Hale; husband, John Carl "JC" West; brothers, John Wesley “JW” Turner, Joe Boyd Turner and Joe’s twin baby brother; and sisters, Patsy Anita Turner Perry and baby sister, Mary Grace.
