Blanche Farmer Hewitt, 80, died Sunday, May 15, 2016 at an Abilene hospital after a short illness. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 18 at the First Baptist Church with Pastors Chris Fobbs, Jimmy Griffith and Coleman Philley officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery, directed by Starbuck Funeral Home.
A visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Blanche was born June 23, 1935 in Merkel to Adrain Lee and Sarah Estelle “Essie” (Doan) Farmer. She married Lawrence Hewitt on March 6, 1953 in Merkel. He preceded her in death December 20, 2011. Blanche graduated from Merkel High School in 1953 and was an active member of the Merkel First Baptist Church. Blanche was a teller at F & M National Bank for over 20 years and after her retirement she was a substitute teacher at Merkel ISD for over 10 years. She was an avid Texas Rangers fan and loved playing Skip-bo and dominoes especially forty-two or any kind of board game. Blanche was unique. She loved baking sweets for any occasion and giving them away. She loved to contribute to any activity if it involved kids. Blanche was a volunteer Emergency Medical Technician for the Merkel Ambulance Service for over 10 years and also served on the board of the Merkel Housing Authority.
Survivors include son, Larry Hewitt and wife Mary; daughter, Suzy Pack and husband Dwayne “Rabbit” all of Merkel; Grandchildren, Chrystal Garcia and husband Albert of San Antonio, Jennifer Hewitt of Merkel, Mark Hewitt of Austin; great grandchildren, Jax and Miri; sisters in law, Jynell Farmer of Abilene, Therese Farmer of West Virginia, Anne Marie White and husband Larry of Haskell, Lora Hewitt of Rosebud; and several nieces and nephews.
Blanche was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Eddie, Edward, Travis, Derrel, and Fred Farmer.
